Reside in the Greater Toronto Area?
For residents in Ontario, sleep studies are covered under the Ontario Healthcare system . Follow these simple instructions if you’re concerned about your sleep health:
- Consult with a family or a walk-in physician about your sleep concerns and request a sleep study consultation for further investigation.
- The physician will refer you to see a sleep specialist and an overnight study can be arranged.
- Once the test results are ready, you will review results and treatment options for your diagnosis.
How do I choose a Sleep Lab?
Choose from hospital-like settings to hotel room-like settings depending on your personal preferences. Your family or walk-in physician will have a list of sleep clinics they can refer you. Alternatively, you can do your own research and find a sleep lab that best suits your needs. Simply get in touch with the preferred sleep lab and request a sleep study requisition form for your doctor to sign.
What happens at an overnight sleep study?
The overnight sleep study requires you to spend a night at a sleep centre. The sleep test electronically records you body and brain’s activity during sleep. A report is generated on your brain activity, eye movements, heart patterns, oxygen and carbon dioxide blood levels, major muscle movements as well as breathing and snoring activity. A sleep physician will analyze the report and provide a diagnosis. Depending on the diagnosis, a sleep disorder can be effectively treated with a wide range of options. After your study with a sleep physician, feel free to contact CPAP Direct for a free consultation of all treatments and therapies available for Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
